Acupuncture is widely considered to be beneficial for a range of illnesses and symptoms from clearly defined complaints such as headaches, vomiting, neck and back ache, arthritis through to more general feelings of ill health such as nausea or low energy. According to traditional Chinese philosophy, our health is dependent on the body's energy moving in a smooth and balanced way through channels beneath the skin. This energy is known as 'qi'. The flow of qi can be disturbed by any number of factors. These include emotional states such as anxiety, anger, grief or poor nutrition, hereditary factors, infections and trauma. When the qi is unbalanced, illness can occur!

Acupuncture can help with a wide range of ailments, including:
Anxiety and Depression
Headaches and Migraines
High Blood Pressure
Infertility (Male & Female)
And Much More
I work with a lot of different complaints every day. But there is one complaint that comes to my door almost every day - fertility. I was instinctively drawn to the areas of fertility and pregnancy and in order to develop my awareness and understanding in this area I undertook postgraduate training (supported by the College of Midwives and leading Gynaecologists & Obstetricians). I would say approximately 80% of my patients come to see me for this reason.
I offer holistic treatment for all aspects of pregnancy care; antenatal and post-partum, including breech and induction treatment. I work with couples who are trying to get pregnant who may be struggling with unexplained infertility or secondary infertility. I also offer support to couples who are having assisted conception and can offer acupuncture support for IVF and other procedures.
The treatment has been shown to be effective in:
Regulating the menstrual cycle; Reducing stress by decreasing the activity of the sympathetic nervous system. High stress levels are associated with reduced chances of conceiving; Improving blood circulation to the pelvic organs, including the ovaries and uterus, allowing the reproductive organs to work to their full potential; Increasing blood circulation to the uterus ensures optimal endometrial thickness; Helping to trigger ovulation dysfunction; Improving sperm count, motility and structural abnormalities.
It is clear that more research studies are required into the use of acupuncture in the field of natural fertility (and alongside IVF treatments), however, the feedback from the majority of women and men who have had acupuncture is that they have benefited enormously, feeling proactive, relaxed, supported and nurtured through what is a very stressful time for many (Zita West, 2013).
